Whisper House
is the sixth studio album recorded by American singer-songwriter Duncan Sheik, released in the United States on January 27, 2009. The album is Sheik's first for the RCA Victor label, as well as his first in the wake of success from composing music for the Tony award-winning musical Spring Awakening
.
The album contains selections from an forthcoming original stage musical, also titled Whisper House
, with book and additional lyrics by Kyle Jarrow, to be directed by 30 Rock
actor Keith Powell. [1] The world premiere of the musical is slated for January 13, 2010 at San Diego, California's Old Globe Theatre. [2]
Sheik discussed themes of the musical in an interview for the January 24, 2009 edition National Public Radio's All Things Considered
, citing influences from part of his childhood spent around Hilton Head, South Carolina, and recalling its iconic lighthouse and the ghost stories he shared there with friends. [3]

The album's first single, "Earthbound Starlight", debuted via the "Pop Candy" blog on USAToday.com on January 15, 2009. A video for the song was released five days later. [4] On Sheik's official website, streaming audio was made available for the album's first single, as well as its first and second tracks, in advance of the album release. [5]
