History
Lou Neglia began promoting MMA matches on kickboxing cards as early as 2000. [1] The first Ring of Combat event, which took place at the Mohegan Sun Arena, Uncasville, Connecticut, featured MMA matches, as well as kickboxing and Muay Thai bouts. [2] ROC II, III, and IV also contained non MMA bouts, [3] [4] [5] but all cards from ROC V to the present featured MMA matches only. [6] [7] [8] Currently, Ring of Combat events are usually held at the Tropicana Casino and Resort, Atlantic City, NJ.
Ring of Combat events are notable for featuring local up-and-coming fighters, who are later signed by larger, nationwide, promotions. ROC alumni include UFC fighters Frank Edgar, Josh Koscheck, and Kurt Pellegrino, as well as Bellator champions Eddie Alvarez and Lyman Good.
Rules
Ring of Combat fights are contested under the Unified Rules of Mixed Martial Arts. ROC events are sanction by both the NJSAC and USKBA.
Rounds
As of now, round duration and number in ROC bouts deviate from the Unified Rules of Mixed Martial Arts. In regular matches, bouts have either two or three rounds, and each round is four minutes in duration. Title matches have three rounds, where each round is five minutes long.
