Amateur career
Sheika compiled an amateur boxing career, capturing a
National Amateur Middleweight Championship at
National AAU Boxing Tournament in 1996.
Professional career
Sheika has fought several times for major titles, but has come up short in each attempt. He challenged
Joe Calzaghe for the WBO super middleweight title in 2000, but lost via TKO. In 2002 he took on WBC super middleweight titleholder
Eric Lucas, but lost. In 2004 he fought IBF super middleweight titleholder
Jeff Lacy, but he lost again. In his latest title fight he challenged
Markus Beyer for the WBC super middleweight title, but Beyer defeated him.
Sheika also fought former world champion
Roy Jones on March 21, 2009, in Pensacola, Florida, and lost via fifth-round knockout
Sheika defeated now-imprisoned boxer
James Butler in late 2004.
Sheika also defeated future IBF light heavyweight champion
Glen Johnson, who went on to defeat Roy Jones and
Antonio Tarver.
