Performances by nation
Note that FIBA considers the national teams of SFR Yugoslavia and FR Yugoslavia as a united team under the name Yugoslavia; that team is considered separate from the national team of the state of Serbia and Montenegro, which in turn is considered distinct from the Serbian national team. In the same way, Soviet Union differs from Russia.
However, the table below lists the national team of SFR Yugoslavia as Yugoslavia, while that of FR Yugoslavia and Serbia and Montenegro is listed as one national team under the name Serbia and Montenegro.
