History
The Bridgeport Sound Tigers
were founded in 2001. The team colors are navy blue and orange, as the logo is a tiger head predominantly in orange. The color of the tiger's head was recently changed from a lighter blue on August 8, 2006. They play at the Bridgeport Arena at Harbor Yard in the city of Bridgeport, Connecticut. They have been fairly successful during their time in the AHL, even making the Calder Cup Finals during their first season, losing to the Chicago Wolves four games to one. They were coached by former Islanders head coach Steve Stirling for their first two seasons, and are currently coached by Jack Capuano. The Sound Tigers have produced many Islanders mainstays such as Trent Hunter, Rick DiPietro, Kyle Okposo, Bruno Gervais, and Sean Bergenheim. Other successful players bred in the Bridgeport organization include Jeff Hamilton ( Carolina Hurricanes), Eric Godard ( Pittsburgh Penguins), Raffi Torres ( Columbus Blue Jackets), Mattias Weinhandl ( Linköpings HC, Swedish Elite League),and Wade Dubielewicz (Blue Jackets). The team will continue to serve as a center for developing NHL caliber talent until their current lease ends after the 2020–2021 season.
The Sound Tigers' mascot is named Storm.

Rivalry
The main (and instate) rival of the Sound Tigers are the Hartford Wolfpack, who happen to be the AHL affiliate of the New York Rangers (the main rival of the Sound Tigers parent club the New York Islanders). They also have a very good rivalry with the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins, the Pittsburgh Penguins AHL. This is due largely to the fact that Bridgeport and Wilkes-Barre/Scranton are frequent playoff matchups. They also are semi-rivals with the Hershey Bears, the Washington Capitals AHL affiliate.
