The San Jose Sharks was formed as an idea to bring hockey back to Northern California after the California Golden Seals moved to Cleveland in 1976 and eventually merged with the North Stars. Starting in 1991, the team had trouble their first two seasons, leading the league in losses, but quickly recovered, pulling a gigantic 58-point turnaround in 1993 and just eight years later, shot up all the way to the top of their conference. They have been playing their home games at the HP Pavilion at San Jose since 1993.

The HP Pavilion in San Jose, also called the Shark Tank, is a 17,562-seat arena located on Santa Clara Street in beautiful downtown San Jose. Building this arena took 540 days and uses over 30 miles of piping just to run clean water and dispose of sanitation.
