Though the Buccaneers are revered in the city, especially after their Super Bowl victory in 2002, there are two other professional clubs situated in this town. They rewarded their fans by bringing home their first Stanley Cup in the 2003-2004 season.

The other major sports team located in Tampa are the Rays. The Rays used to be known as the Devil Rays but, oddly enough, when they dropped the demonic sounding devil from their name, they went to the playoffs for the first time in team history. Tampa Bay Buccaneers History

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers were added to the NFL as an expansion team in 1976 with the Seattle Seahawks. In their first season, the team was placed in the AFC West but would later be moved to the NFC Central before finally landing in the NFC South division today. Tampa fans would have to endure rough seasons at the outset of this franchise as they lost their first 26 regular season games in a row.

However, once the team rallied around head coach John McKay and quarterback Doug Williams, the organization enjoyed its first period of success between 1979 and 1982. They won their division three times in these years and reached the NFC championship in 1979. However, after the team was dismantled due to the opening of the USFL and money troubles, the Bucs slid back down the standings.

This franchise wasn't relevant until the late 1990's and the early 2000's when Tony Dungy built this from the ground up. He would later be relieved for head coach Jon Gruden, who led the Buccaneers to their first Super Bowl appearance in 2002. The Bucs would take home the title by routing the Oakland Raiders for their first and only Super Bowl Championship. Since this season the Bucs have won their division in 2005 and 2007 but haven't made it deep into the playoffs since their championship year.
