The team would slide back down the rankings until the turn of the millennium when they drafted LaDainian Tomlinson, Antonio Gates, Shawne Merriman, and acquired Phillip Rivers. This team core has aided the Chargers in becoming the class of the AFC West. However, as of the 2009 football season, they have yet to get to and win footballs prized event, the Super Bowl.
