After being created, the Panthers, like the Jacksonville Jaguars, were given special privileges to having an expansion draft. However, the organization made their biggest splash when they drafted Kerry Collins, a quarterback from Penn State in 1995. Over the years, the Panthers would also add phenomenal defensive end Julius Peppers from the University of North Carolina.

The Panthers won their only conference title against the Philadelphia Eagles in 2003, but would ultimately loss the Super Bowl to the New England Patriots by three points. Since then, they have added talent like Jon Beason at middle linebacker, running backs DeAngelo Williams and Jonathan Stewart, and lineman like Jeff Otah. Their last division title came in 2008, led by quarterback Jake Delhomme.
