Milwaukee Bucks History

The Milwaukee Bucks are one of the few teams in NBA history to be created in the city in which they still play. This has created a great basketball following in the Milwaukee metropolitan area. They were founded in 1968 and endured a rough season that would enable them to gain the first pick in the following season's draft. They used this pick to select Lew Alcindor, a center out of UCLA, who became one of the all time greats in NBA history. You may know him more commonly as Kareem Abdul-Jabaar.

With Abdul-Jabaar, the Bucks enjoyed one of the biggest turnarounds in NBA history as they posted the second best regular season record in the Eastern conference in 1970. Though they couldn't make it through the playoffs in 1970, they acquired Oscar Robinson in 1971, which was the banner year for this organization. They rolled through the playoffs and won their first and only NBA title.

After their powerhouse years in the early 1970's, the Bucks remained relevant despite trading away Kareem Abdul Jabbar. However, after the 1974 finals, the Bucks would never make it back to the big dance. They would win division titles in the 1980's, thanks to the players received in the Abdul-Jabaar trade but ultimately fail to gain a second NBA title. They would have to wait for the Karl era to begin around the turn of the century but would never make it past the Eastern Conference finals again.
