Golden State Warriors History

Like most sports franchises, the Golden State Warriors franchise was actually created in the east and started its days in the city of Philadelphia. They won the BAA, which later became the NBA, championship in their inaugural season. After the shift to the newly formed NBA, the Philadelphia Warriors would win a second championship in 1956 thanks to the play of future Hall of Fame players like Paul Arizin and Michael Bryson. They also got the rights to Wilt Chamberlain, who revolutionized the way basketball was played.

Before the 1962 season, the team was bought by Franklin Meiulu and the squad was up-rooted and moved to San Francisco. While in San Francisco, the Warriors traded the rights to Wilt Chamberlain and sank back down the standings after star player Rick Barry left for the ABA. They would only play in San Francisco until 1971, when the team moved to Oakland and changing its name to the more state-friendly Golden State Warriors.

There next and last championship for the Golden State Warriors came in 1975 in one of the biggest upsets in NBA history. From 1971 to 1978, the Warriors enjoyed their best years only failing to make the playoffs one year. However, the championship year of 1975 will always be regarded as the pinnacle year until this team wins again. This is because the Warriors downed the heavily favored Washington Bullets in four games.
