The Fray History

The Fray started out as a jam band session between two high school friends and founder of the band Joe King and Isaac Slade. They jammed out together which led them to write and produce their own original songs. They started with four members but two left in the beginning stages of their career and were replaced with Ben Wysocki on drums and Dave Welsh as lead guitarist. They settled on the band name because they seemed to constantly fight over the lyrics that go into their songs. However, this fighting has led to the creation of what is a truly unique sound.

Like most bands, this group stared small and produced their first record themselves, called "Movement EP," in 2002. They would produce another one the following year called "Reason EP." These two albums were constantly rejected by local Denver radio stations, where the band was originally from, until they sent them a demo of the song "Cable Car." Due to the airplay this song received, the Fray was signed to their first record deal in 2005 by Epic Records. That same year, the Fray would put out their first studio produced album named "How to Save a Life."

Once again, they used the song Cable Car as the launching single from this album and it received a lot of attention in Western countries around the world. They got a boost to their careers as their second single, named after their debut album, was used for promoting the popular television show, "Grey's Anatomy." This song would reach #3 on Rock charts and prompt this band to be brought into the spotlight of American rock music acts. This song was once again largely popular around the world as well as in the United States. The Fray would go back to the studio following the success of their first album to produce their second and self titled album. This album did well in sales but didn't have quite the success of their debut album.
