Alon Goldstein
(born 1970) is an Israeli classical pianist.
He earned his masters degree from the Peabody Institute, where he studied with Leon Fleisher. He has earned glowing recommendations from Fleisher, Claudio Abbado, and Zubin Mehta, among others.
Born in Israel in 1970, Goldstein began piano studies at age seven. After studying with artists such as Victor Derevianko and Arie Vardi, he graduated from Thelma Yellin High School of the Arts and continued his studies at the Rubin Academy of Music at Tel-Aviv University. He served in the Israeli Army as an "Outstanding Musician," and was a 10-time recipient of the America-Israel Cultural Foundation scholarship. The recipient of numerous awards, Goldstein won the Francois Shapira prize in 1991.
After performing several times with the Israeli Philharmonic Orchestra Goldstein received the Goralnic Award in 1992, which allowed him to study abroad. Goldstein received a scholarship to study with Leon Fleisher for four years at the Peabody Conservatory of Music.
After completing his master’s degree there, Goldstein became a "performance fellow" at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama in London.
His recital and concert appearances have taken him to major cities throughout the U.S. and Europe, and includes the Dame Myra Hess Memorial Concert Series in Chicago; the 1999 Klavier Festival in Germany; the Phillips Collection Series in Washington, D.C.; and the Aspen Marlboro, Ravinia and Tanglewood music festivals.
Since the year 2004, he takes part in the Tel Hai International Piano Master Classes in Israel as a teacher and performer.
Goldstein also received the State of Israel Culture and Arts prize for the best solo performance of a work by an Israeli composer. He recorded a CD dedicated to Israeli music and he plays Israeli music in most of his solo recitals.
In recent seasons, Mr. Goldstein has played with the Philadelphia, San Francisco, Houston, Baltimore, Vancouver, and Saint Louis Symphony orchestras under such conductors as Raphael Frühbeck de Burgos, Peter Oundjian, and Leon Fleisher. Other recent highlights include recitals at the Metropolitan Museum and Peoples’ Symphony Concerts in New York, Dame Myra Hess Memorial concert series in Chicago, The Phillips Collection and Strathmore Hall in Washington DC. Recent international appearances include “George Enescu” Philharmonic in Bucharest, and performs with the Bulgarian National Radio Orchestra, the Orchestra Sinfonica Siciliana, the Jerusalem Camerata and the Orchestre National de l’Ile de France in addition to closing the 2004 “Proms at St. Judes” festival in London and a recital in Moscow at the Kremlin.
During the 2005-06 season Mr. Goldstein made his debut appearances with the Dayton Philharmonic, Quad Cities, Santa Barbara, Delaware, and Seattle Symphonies. Recitals included performances in Chattanooga, TN, and a reengagement on the Dame Myra Hess series in Chicago.
