They would build their state of the art retractable domed facility named Reliant Field and would have an expansion draft in 2001 to bring in players for their team. Their inaugural game took place in 2002 when they hosted their intrastate rivals, the Dallas Cowboys.

The Texans have had rough sledding throughout their short history as most expansion teams do. They are still the only team of the four major sports leagues to not go to the playoffs. However, over the last four years, they have added a core group of players like Andre Johnson, Matt Schaub, and Steve Slaton who look to bring this young franchise to the forefront of the NFL.
