Other Cincinnati Teams
Cincinnati is a sports town that centers around two professional sports teams. Other than the Bengals, the Reds are the other team in town and they are members of Major League Baseball. The Reds are the founding member of the National League and are the oldest franchise still associated with the MLB. They had their greatest seasons in the 1970's thanks to the "Big Red Machine." Players on this team included Johnny Bench, Joe Morgan, and all time hits leader Pete Rose.
There are other sports teams associated with Cincinnati, but these teams are in the collegiate realm of sports. The University of Cincinnati has had great recent success in the NCAA and won their conference, the Big East, in 2009. Though they lost their bowl game to powerhouse, Florida, they have built themselves into the model of the Big East teams. Xavier is found in this city and is a great college hoops team. Xavier is usually a perennial contender in the March Madness College Tournament.
Buy Bengals Tickets!
The Bengals have been a team on the upswing and they have one of the most exciting offenses in the NFL. When people go to Bengals games, they never know what to expect from this spread out and fast offense coupled with an up and coming defense. Buying a ticket to get into Paul Brown Stadium is a great way to spend a Sunday afternoon in Cincinnati.
Cincinnati Bengals History
The Bengals owner, Paul Brown, did not want to start his own franchise in Cincinnati as an AFL expansion team. The only reason the Bengals exist today is because Brown was assured that after the merger took place in 1970, his team would become a regular NFL team. In 1968, the Bengals officially became a part of the AFL that two years later merged with the NFL and the team was placed in the AFC Central.
Being put in this division alongside the Cleveland Browns was a way to spark an instant rivalry between the two cities in Ohio and the owners themselves, Paul Brown of the Bengals and Art Modell of the Browns. Since the merger, these teams have repeatedly done battle against each other, a tradition that was set to continue when they were both placed in the new AFC North in 2002.
The Bengals have been to two Super Bowls in their time as members of the NFL in 1981 and 1988. However, both times they were bested by the San Francisco 49ers with Joe Montana and Jerry Rice. Since the 1988 season, the Bengals went into a bit of slump that lasted until 2005. They won the division again four years later in 2009 thanks to players like Carson Palmer and Chad Ochocinco.
