Born on July 8th, 1961, Toby Keith would live a normal Mid-West upbringing during his early life. Originally from Arkansas but later moving to Oklahoma, Keith first became interested in music when he was eight years old and worked for his grandmother at her diner. He learned how to play a guitar at very young age and played in bands around Oklahoma following his high school years. A little known fact about Keith is that he was an oil man in this state before the wells dried up. He also played semi-pro football as a defensive end for the Oklahoma City based club but found that his true passion was music.

Keith had many failed attempts to get signed to record deals but was finally given his chance by Mercury Records in 1993. He rewarded their faith by producing his first #1 single with the track, "Should've Been a Cowboy." This song came off his self-titled first album which also when platinum due to other hit singles like, "A Little Less Talk and a Lot More Action" and "Wish I Didn't Know Now." After the success of this album, he left Mecury Records and signed with Polydor Records to release his second album called "Boomtown." Switching labels would be common theme for Keith as he progressed in his music career during the 1990's and finally led to him starting his own label.

The one thing that was a constant for singer Toby Keith was his ability to turn out hit singles and records. In total throughout his career, Toby Keith has had sixteen number one hits to his credit along with numerous other songs that made appearances on the billboard charts.
